News from Day 1

news1.jpg (6734 bytes)

At 12.00VRT, November 30th 1998,  '30 Days in ActiveWorlds' was opened for building. Over the first 24 hour period the world experienced considerable growth.
Pictured below are maps, produced from data on the world server, illustrating the world growth over the first 24 hours of open access building. Note the object building yard in the top left hand corner (69North, 69West).

A number of interesting buildings are taking shape in the world. Samples from Day 1 are pictured right.

As the illustrated maps show, extensive building was carried out during Day 1. Unfortunately the World also suffered vandalism, resulting in the requirement to reinstall the 'registry' file into the world. Pictured below is an example of the vandalism carried out at 'Ground Zero'.

The registry file ensures that objects cannot overlap, allowing a greater level of security for registered citizens in the World. Unfortunately tourists are still at risk and it is recommended that all tourists take a screenshot of any work in case of further vandalism.

Screenshots may be emailed  to asmith@geog.ucl.ac.uk
