Mark Thurstain-Goodwin - PhD Researcher
After 10 years of Town Centres research, are we any closer to the Promised Land?
The Town Centres research project was CASA’s first major research project. It was also the first time that detailed datasets from the Office for National Statistics and Valuation Office Agency were mapped and modelled using new software and new techniques. It seemed, back then, as if we were on the cusp of the something quite special in urban analysis and research. 10 years on, as the project goes live, a slightly greyer Mark Thurstain-Goodwin reflects on how things have gone and considers if the new technologies now raising our expectations, such as Google Maps, are the beginning of a great leap forward, or simply divert us from the bigger issues.
