The blog draws on research from Andrew Crooks and Christian Castle who are researching various forms of micro-simulation models focussing on movement and location at fine spatial scales. This blog reports work in the wider community of those dealing with agent based models but within a spatial context that is focussed through GIS and GI science. A particular feature of this research in CASA is the emphasis on the open source software called RePast which has been developed by Argonne National Labs in the University of Chicago.
Several other researchers in CASA are using RePast, namely Kei Kitazawa and Yi Gong in the CAPABLE project, and Vassilis Zachariadis in his models of wide area pedestrian movement in Covent Garden. An impromptu seminar on RePast was given in February 2006 by CASA members, the pdfs of which can be accessed here.
